SAMPLING FOR CORONAVIRUS DETECTION TESTS AT THE TOLUCA AIRPORT

SARS-CoV-2 (COVID 19) DETECTION TEST - PCR

The PCR (Polymerasa Chain Reaction) test is the main test used to detect the Sars-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease in humans.

This is a molecular biology laboratory test, the objective of which is to find genetic material of pathogens that can cause disease. Taking a small sample of organic material, it is potentiated and maximized, being able to identify if the agent's genetic chain specifically exists.

In the case of the Sars-CoV-2 test, a variant of the PCR test known as RT-PCR is performed, for its acronym in English Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction, that is to say, polymerase chain reaction with reverse transcriptase. This test is performed when in the genetic material analyzed there is no DNA as such, but rather an RNA of the pathogen, so the RNA is analyzed and using an enzyme called "reverse transcriptase", it is translated into Complementary DNA. Once this is done, it is maximized for identification.

RAPID TEST FOR EARLY DETECTION SARS-CoV-2

The Rapid Antigen test is a recently approved test for use by the WHO as a new type of diagnostic test for COVID-19 disease.

This type of test detects protein material of the virus existing in its protective layer, that is, proteins that are part of the composition of the virus (also called “antigens”). Upon detection, it is presumed that the patient contracted the Sars CoV-2 virus and with it, may develop the COVID-19 disease as well as be a person capable of spreading the infection.

The antigen test is being widely used due to its rapidity of results, since, once taken, its processing in the laboratory takes 60 to 120 minutes.

To perform the test, a completely sealed kit is used which contains a long swab with which a sample is taken from the nasopharynx, once the sample is collected, it is processed to identify the protein chains and determine the presence or not of the Sars CoV virus. -2. The results that are delivered are qualitative, that is to say "Positive" or "Negative".

Rapid Antigen Tests work best within the first 7 days of suspected COVID-19 symptoms. After this period of time, the chances of a false Negative result are increased.
